Pote, who had left us only a short time ago to spend the winter at Whittaker, Pa., with his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Mellott. Mr. Pote was a son of Adam and Nancy Pote and was born May 8, 1846 on the farm now owned by J. Z. Pote. He aided his father on the farm during his boyhood. In 1876 he engaged in mercantile business in Baker's Summit and continued in that business until 1886 when his brothers, C. Z. and A. Z., bought his interests. At an early age he was married to Leah Holsinger, a daughter of Thomas Holsinger. This union was blessed by three children, all living--Mrs. Arthur Mellott and Morton of Whittaker, and Howard of Roaring Spring. His wife died about 15 years ago. In 1899 he was stricken by total blindness, the optic nerve being affected. His sight later was partly restored. For several years he made his home with his brother A. Z. Pote, and daughter, Mrs. Mellott. Mr. Pote was always highly respected. He was a kind and obliging neighbor and a useful man in the community. He had been in failing health for several years. His death was caused by a complication of diseases. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Eli Cowen of Roaring Spring, and Mrs. Geo. H. Appleman of Baker's Summit, and three brothers, C. Z. Pote of Altoona, A. Z. and J. Z. of Baker's Summit. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Holsinger church conducted by Elder F. C. Dively. Interment in Holsinger cemetery.
