He was a son of Jacob and Rebecca Gochnour Shaefer. He was born at King, Bedford county, November 30, 1867, and was married to Alma Shoemaker at King, March 26, 1891. Mr. Shaefer, had been for many years, a member of Christ Second Lutheran church and for 25 years, prior to his illness, was employed as a machinist in No. 3 erecting shop of the P.R.R. Surviving are his wife and four sons: Charles E. and George R., at home; Archie B., Vandalia, Ohio; Virgil P., Altoona; three half sisters and a half brother: Mrs. Emma Myers and Will Fickes, Altoona; Harry Fickes, Sproul; and Mrs. Laura McKee, Roaring Spring; a half brother, Elmer Fickes, died in France, in World war service. Funeral services were held at the home, at 1 p. m. Saturday in charge of G. N. Lauffer, D. D., and further services were held in the union church at 3 p. m. and interment was made in the church cemetery.
