The sudden and unexpected death took place on Monday evening last of David Shaeffer, esq., of Kimmel township, Bedford county, near the line of our township, Greenfield. On Monday Mr. Shaeffer came to Claysburg with his son, William, who is clerking in Altoona, taking him to McKee's for the train to Altoona. As soon as Mr. Shaeffer got home he complained of not feeling well and laid down and fell into a sleep never to rise again. The doctor was brought but could not give any relief. In a few minutes he expired. He was laid to rest on Wednesday at 12 o'clock, in the Lutheran cemetery at Claysburg. It was one of the largest funerals that has ever been in this place. He was a good citizen and neighbor and a friend to one and all in the community. He was well known all over the country and had lived all his life in the same locality in which he died. He was living nicely and appeared to have nearly everything as he wished it except his health, which had not been very good for several years. He had two good farms and raised abundant crops, which brought him large sums of money, but he did not hoard it up as some do, but gave a great deal of employment to mechanics and laboring men. He leaves a large family to mourn their loss. All are grown up and married except two daughters, Minnie and Mollie. The community are in sympathy with the bereaves family, as he will be much missed by all. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Friday Evening, April 28, 1893
