Death Summons Mother of Ten
Pennsylvania Woman is Stricken on Visit

Mrs. Barbra Ellen Shaffer, 87, of Somerset County, Pa., died Friday at 11:30 
a.m., in the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.W. Ellenberger, of Burgoon, after 
suffering a stroke three weeks ago. Mrs. Shaffer came to Ohio 10 months ago to 
visit her children. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at 
Helixville, Pa. The body was taken to the Hess mortuary in Lindsey to be 
prepared for burial, but will be returned to the daughters home Saturday 
morning.
Formerly Miss Barbra Ellen Bender, Mrs. Shaffer was born July 15, 1848, in 
Somerset County. Her Husband Levi R. Shaffer died in 1917. Surviving are 10 
children: Irvin, Martin, James and Harry Shaffer, Mrs. Bessie Blough and Mrs. 
Maggie Mann all of Pennsylvania; Joseph, Blair, and Mrs. Ellenberg of Burgoon 
and Mrs. H.W. Findley, of 821 South Street, Fremont; 49 grandchildren and 37 
great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbra Ellen Shaffer, who died in the home of a 
daughter in Burgoon last week, were held Monday in Helixville, Pa., in charge 
of the Hess mortuary of Lindsey. Pall bearers were six nephews: Vernon & 
Dorwin Findley, Clarence and Nelson Shaffer, Wilson & Lester Rose.
