Death has again entered our community and claimed as his victim one of Baker's Summit's most esteemed citizens, Mr. John Shoop, who had not been enjoying good health for some time, but was about as usual on last Tuesday morning, and was seated at the breakfast table when his summons came. His death was due to heart failure, and consequently very sudden and unexpected. His funeral took place on Thursday last from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. B. Pote, where he had been making his home for a number of years. The ceremonies were conducted in the Methodist Episcopal church, by Rev. J. A. J. Williams, assisted by Rev. E. Dutt, who preached a very touching and appropriate sermon to a large concourse of sorrowing relations and friends. Mr. Shoop was born in Waynesboro, Pa., August 24, 1805, and died March 24, 1891, being therefore 85 years and 7 months old at the time of his death. He was a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was honored and respected by all who knew him. He leaves one son and several daughters to survive him.
