Sleek, wife of George H. Sleek, of New Paris, died on Sunday, April 13, aged fifty-four years, one month and twenty-nine days. Her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Crissman, who still survives her, celebrated her eighty-first birthday on the above date and fours years ago on the same date the wife of her son, Joseph R. Sleek, died at New Paris. On February 20, 1868, she and her husband were united in matrimony. To this union were born four sons and two daughters, all of whom preceded the mother in death but the oldest and the youngest, Joseph R. Sleek, of New Paris, and Eudora, at home. The deceased was a daughter of William Crissman, who served a term as poor director of this county, a grand-daughter of Andrew Crissman, once a county commissioner, and a great grand-daughter of William Crissman, one of the first settlers in St. Clair township, who served two terms in the state legislature at the time when it was customary for members of that body to carry their outfits in knapsacks to the capital. The subject of this article was a noble woman, a true wife, a kind mother and an obliging neighbor. She was especially noted for her kindness and honesty. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sleek were known far and near for their generous hospitality. Interment was made in the Evangelical cemetery at New Paris on Tuesday in the presence of many relatives and friends. The services were conducted by Rev. J. B. Miller, assisted by Rev. W. H. Bowden. The Pall-bearers were G. W. Hoover, J. B. Beckley, A. G. Carpenter, A. P. Hillegass, S. T. Taylor and F. J. Rock. John H. Crissman, of Helixville, is a brother and Mrs. W. A. Grazier, of New Paris, is a sister of the deceased. Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Wright and Samuel Ralston, of Wilmerding; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rose, of Johnstown, Mrs. J. * Boor and A. J. Otto, of Bedford.
