On last Thursday, a passenger on the way passenger going West, by the name of Wm. Snyder, jumped off the train a short distance west of Gallitzin, while the train was running at the rate of thirty miles per hour, striking his head on the rail, splitting his skull. While lying senseless, a freight train bound east came along and otherwise mangled him. He was taken back to Gallitzin and a Coroner's inquest held on his remains, who returned a verdict that the deceased came to his death either by jumping from the train or by coming in contact with the freight locomotive. Mr. Francis J. Parish was the foreman of the inquest. From the evidence adduced it appears that Snyder was a resident of Bedford county and that he had purchased a ticket for Johnstown, and when the conductor asked him to show his ticket he refused, when he was informed that if he did not show it or pay he would have to get off the train. A few minutes after, Snyder made the fatal leap. On his person was found the railroad ticket and a small sum of money. He was about forty years , and appeared to be a laboring man.
