White, for over half a century a teacher in the schools of Bedford county and one of the best known residents of Saxton, died at his home Friday evening at 10:30 o'clock of diseases incident to old age. He was widely known throughout Central Pennsylvania and was a Civil war veteran. Deceased was the son of John A. and Sarah White, and was born near Broad Top City May 11, 1836, being aged 80 years. He was a member of the Lutheran church and was also affiliated with the P.O.S. of A. and the Grand Army of the Republic. On December 25, 1864, he wedded Miss Nancy Ellen McClain, who still lives. Two years ago the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and had looked forward to having a quiet celebration of the fifty-second anniversary this Christmas. Surviving are these children: John M. and Milton A., of Saxton; George, of San Bernardino, Cal.; Roy M., of 516 Twenty-second avenue, and Mrs. Cora Alexander, of 517 Fifth street. The funeral services will be held from the home this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, with interment following in the Saxton cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday Morning, December 18, 1916
