All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/bedford/ ________________________________________________ To the Honorable the Judges of the court of Common Pleas of Bedford County The petition of Henry Miller a native of Saxony Europe, respectfully showeth: That your petitioner arrived in the United States of America to wit: at Baltimore on the twenty second day of November A.D. 1856, and that in pursuance of an act of Congress entitled "An Act to establish a Uniform rule of Naturalization and to repeal the acts heretofore passed on that subject" that he was a minor of about eleven years of age when he emigrated to the United States, and landed at said port of Baltimore, that he resided in the United States more than three years prior to his becoming of the age of 21 years, and that he has ever since continued to reside therein, that he now makes a declaration of his intentions as follows; Viz: That he the said Henry Miller was born in Plowden(?) in the kingdom of Saxony A.D. 1845 and is now about the age of twenty three years that he was born a member of that kingdom and vowed allegiance to the king of Saxony, that he migrated from Saxony to the United States and arrived at the port of Baltimore on or about the 22nd day of November A. D. 1856, and that it is his intention to settle in Pennsylvania; and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for the twelve years last past and for ten years last past in the state of Pennsylvania; that he has never borne any hereditory title nor born of any of the orders of nobility in the kingdom whence he came or elsewhere. He therefore prays that he may be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, and he will ever pray. Henry Miller Mr. Daniel Davis and William States citizens of the United States being duly sworn according to law say that they are well acquainted with the above named Henry Miller, petitioner, and that to their certain knowledge and belief he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past, within the state of pennsylvania that during the same period he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same. William States I, Henry Miller the above named petitioner do on my solemn oath declare that the contents of my petition are true; that I will support the Constitution of the United States, that I do hereby renounce and relinquish any title or order of nobility to which I am or hereafter may be entitled and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate State and Sovereignty whatever and particularly to the king (John III) of Saxony of whom I was before a subject.
