All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/bedford/ ________________________________________________ Bedford County, Pennsylvania Will Book 2, pp. 230-232 WILL OF ADAM MILLER In the name of God Amen I Adam Miller of Londonderry Township Bedford County and State of Pennsylvania being sick and weak in Body; but of sound Mind Memory and understanding praised be god for it, and considering the certainty of death & the uncertainty of the time thereof and to the end I may be the better prepared to leave this world whenever it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and declare this My Last will and Testament in manner following that is to say first and principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping for free pardon and remission of all my sins and to enjoy everlasting happiness in the heavenly Kingdom through Jesus Christ my Saviour my body I commit to the Earth at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named My body is to be buried on the Presbyterian Burrying ground in Barlin and my funeral Expenses shall be paid out of my personal Estate first I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Rosanna the room on the East side of my Brick house in Barlin and free passage to Kitchen for her to perform her washing there and cooking room, in the Stable for her Cow & hay and one third part of the Lot for gardening and the third part of the Fruit and Room in the Celler and choice of one Bed and Bedstead and Curtain the Big Clock and case and one Bureau, one table one stove and pipes thereto and half dozen of Winser Chairs one Looking Glass one Coper Kittle one Kopper Tea Kettle two iron pots one triplen pan two flat Irons one Coffee pot, Coffee Mill one pot rack one bail one bucket one Washing Tub one puter Basen three oval Earthen Dishes two flat dishes Six small plates Four large plates Six butter plates nine Cup plates one set of Cups and Sausers one ditto of Chinery one Tea pot one Shugar boal one Cream Jug one Salt Seller one set of knives and forks one set table spoons one set of silver tea spoons one set of common ditto one Candle stick one shuffer one sissers four tin Cups one strainer one Cabbage plain three bottles two tumblers the large waiter one band box all the hand tolls and all the table cloths one cotton weel one spinning Weel one reel four bread baskets one big basket one hand basket one Spade one how tongues Shovel one side saddle one bridle one duck Bible one prayer book one hymnal Choice of one Cow and the Sum of Four hundred dollars of wich she is to have the Interest yearly but in case of sickness which ever of her children nurses her is to be allowed out of the above mentioned Four hundred Dollars and charges to be decided by two disinterested Men, to have and to hold the same During her natural life or as long as she remains my Widow, and Secondly the Ledgecy that I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary's Children is one hundred and seventy three Dollars and fifty nine cents cash with all the Goods & Chattles bought at Sheriff Ankenys sale held on the Sixteenth day of April A.D. 1819 which amounts to the sum of four hundred and Twenty Six dollars & forty one cents making in the hole Amount Six hundred dollars which my daughter Mary is to have the use and Benefits thereof during her natural life as her part of my Estate. Thirdly I give and bequeath unto my son George the sum of one dollar as his part of my Estate. fourthly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Entermarried John Alter the sum of three hundred & Sixty dollars & Eighty cents whith the sum of two hundred & thirty nine dollars & twenty cents which I have paid her already making altogether Six hundred dollars. fifthly I give and bequeath unto my Son Jacob G. Miller the house and Lots which he at present resides valued at the Sum of Six hundred dollars. Sixthly I give and bequeath unto my Daugter Rosanna Entermarried Killian Lichteberger the Sum of Four hundred & fifty eight Dollars with the sum of one hundred and forty two dollars which I have already paid her Making altogether Six hundred Dollars. Seventhly I give and bequeath unto my Son Daniel Miller the Sum of Two hundred and thirty nine Dollars & Seventeen cents, whith the Sum of one hundred Sixty Dollars and Eighty three Cents which I have already paid him Making in all four hundred Dollars as his part of my Estate. Eighthly I give and bequeath unto my son Josiah Miller my Plantation whereon I at present reside with the fifty Acres more or less adjoining the above plantation and the big bay Mare patent plow Shear & Colter false Colter Cleves two sets of Horse gears bline bridles Collars Bridge bands belly bands back bands hairnes & traices - Ninthly I give and Bequeath unto my Daugter Missildo the brick House in Barlin valued at the Sum of Eight hundred Dollars Lot Stable and all Out buildings thereto belonging. Tenthly My Will is that the White Horse Tavern stand is to be sold at publick sake and the remainder of my real and personal Estate and in case if any overplus there shall be equal share and share alike Among my five children Elizabeth Jacob Rosanna Josiah Missildo. Eleventhly My will is that after the death of my Wife Rosanna what she leaves of her part of my estate is to be divided equal among my Eight Children Namely Mary George Elizabeth Jacob Rosanna Daniel Josiah Missildo Share and Share alike to be paid as before directed and I make and ordain my two sons Jacob G. Miller & Josiah Miller Executors of this my last will and testament. Adam "his X mark" Miller {Seal} Signed Sealed and acknowledged by the testator in the presence of the Subscribers as his last will and testament Jacob Garns Daniel Lybarger February 8th 1827 Pennsylvania Bedford County SS. On the 28th day of February A.D. 1827 Personally appeared before the Subscriber Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for said County, Jacob Garns and Daniel Lybarger the subscribing Witnesses to the within and foregoing instrument of writing, who being duly sworn according to law, depose and say that they were personally present and heard and saw the testator Adam Miller, sign by making his mark, Seal publish and declare the within and foregoing instrument of writing as and for his last will and testament, that at the time thereof the testator was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding according to the best of these deponents knowledge & belief and that they subscribed their names thereto as Witnesses in presence of the testator and at his request. Jacob Garns Daniel Lybarger Sworn and subscribed the 28th February A.D. 1827 Before me Job Mann Register. Be it Remembered that on the 28th day of February A.D. 1827 Letters Testamentary issued to Jacob G. Miller & Josiah Miller Executors in the foregoing will named they having been first duly sworn according to law. And also sworn agreeably the directions of the act of Assembly & *** the 8th day of March A.D. 1826, entitled "an act Relating to Collateral inheritance."
