The last will and testament of John Oster.. I John Oster of the township of Cumberland Valley and county of Bedford, Pa. Considering the uncertainty of this life and being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament. 1st I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susan Oster all my real and personal property whatsoever to me belongs during her natural life, and after her declare it is my desire that the property be appraised and sold but in case any of my children wish to take it at the appraisement they can do so and if not it is my desire that it be sold and the money equally divided amongst my nine children, namely Jacob, William, John, Jonathan, Ida Rebecca, (helly ?), Sophia, and Mary, and to Susan Soomans two children being Jonathan and Solomon the two children to have an equal part with the first names, but children that is Susanšs share. And I hereby appoint my beloved wife Susan Oster Exective of this my final will and testament. In witnefs (witness) whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the nineteenth day of July eighteen hundred and fifty six. John Oster seal Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named John Oster to be his last will and testament. In the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names witness there-unto. John A. Gump John (Lunese?) *Unable to read the last name of 2nd witness. Also in will text the last name of daughter Susan I believe should be an L. The S in Susan, Sophia are identical to the last name Soomans. The census report of 1850 shows daughter Susan Lumanšs children Jonathan Luman Solomon Luman. The 1860 census gives the Luman spelling also. On the helly name the letters are exactly that-not capitalized it definitely does not look like the name Polly which is how its written in the 1860 census, perhaps that is the name he meant to write but I do not know.
