It is believed that he was born in Berks Co PA. In 1789 at the age of 23 he married 21 year old Catherine Riegel and began a family. Then in early 1801 the family moved to Carlisle PA. where on May 26, 1801, with seven children under, all under 12 years of age he purchased town lot #360 in the Borough of Carlisle, Cumberland Co. PA. for $1800 and on August 5, 1801 he there bought an additional lot (#61) containing one acre and one hundred and twenty perchas. On April 12 1813 he sold 95 acres 142 perches of this land to Peter Blosser for 1420 "pounds" and moved his family to Ohio, It is possible that his three oldest children remained in Carlisle (they would have been ages 19, 21, and 24 at the time he moved to Ohio) I have no information on them. I do believe that his other children went with him to Ohio. On June 15, 1813 he purchased 160 acres in Butler Twp, Columbiana Co. His wife Catherine Riegel died there in 1817 at age 49, and is there buried. Seven years later, On June 5, 1824 he sold 120 acres to George Brantingham, and In 1831 he sold the remaining 40 acres (pt of SW 1/4 Sec 26 T16 Range 4) to his son John Shade for $800. (Ohio Deeds Book 13 pg 699 - copy in my possession) This Deed signed by Christian and his wife Mary (this is the only known record that Christian re-married after the death of his first wife, Catherine Riegel) Christian died in Seneca Co. OH on January 19 , 1837 and is there buried in Smith Cemetery, Venice Twp. Seneca Co OH., a small abandoned cemetery located on land that was once owned by his son John. His obituary appeared in the Tiffin Gazette - Seneca Advertiser on Feb 18, 1837.
