Ritter (aka deRitter) was in residence at Goshenhoppen up to his death in the early part of 1787. He must have come to the Mission in mid 1765 as the first burial was recorded in 8/1765. But the registers kept by him during the last two years of his life - from 1785 to 1787 - are missing. [The first three entries are recorded before Father DeRitter came to Goshenhoppen, and none of them are dated: KUHN, Margaret, d/o Henry & --------. d. 19 Jul. from being burnt while her parents were away attending a religious service at Magunshi, buried 21 Jul. near her father's house at Cedron Creek. MAGUIN, Mary, w/o Henry Maguin, buried 27 May at Dinekum [Tinicum]. LORENZ, --------, infant son of Jacob, had scarcely been born when it was baptized and died; buried Dec. 1765, in the graveyard at Couissahopen [Goshenhoppen]. LINCH [perhaps better LYNCH], John, unmarried, over twenty years of age, had not been brought up a Catholic. Two months before death, he, of his own accord, came to the priest and said that he desired to embrace the true faith, in the meantime having been stricken with the smallpox he signified his wish for a priest and his desire for the faith. On perceiving that he had suddenly gone out of his mind I did all I could for him--I baptized him, absolved him and anointed him. He had always lived most uprightly. He died 16 Mar 1774, buried 18 Mar. LITZINGER, Magdalen, widow, over 70 yrs of age, for six yrs had been afflicted with various ailments and lastly with asthma--yester [4 Apr 1774] while all were rising for the day, she was found dead, though apparently resting in the most peaceful slumber; she had frequently been refreshed with all the sacraments of holy Roman Ch. she died of dropsy, and was buried 5 Apr.
