Mr D. says the above is deed from his grandfather to his father. Mr D. does not know who the Chrs Merkle mentioned in the above deed was. I learn from him that Samuel Merkel, Co Treas, was son of Jacob & grandson of Casper. Samuel's son Augustus Hugh Merkel who I saw in Aug 1898, but now dead (but his sister, widow of Jacob K. Spang is still living in Reading) sold the old Merkle farm which he got from his father to Amos Rothermel. Amos died a few yrs ago & his widow died last year, but two of their daughters, unmarried, live in the old home in Fleetwood Pa & would have any of the old bible records that Amos may have had. Geo A. Dreibelbis sd at dinner that Amos heirs had recently sold the old place (the original Merkle homestead) to the country or gun club. Additional Comments: Extracted from the Josiah V.
