  ASHTON GARDNER - Already prominent in the civic, social and fraternal life 
of Hollidaysburg, county capital of Blair County, Ashton Gardner is rising 
in his profession as lawyer.  He has served as borough councilman, has held 
high posts in fraternal organizations, and is a man of influence in politics 
and civil affairs.
  Ashton Gardner was born in Hollidaysburg, June 18, 1894.  His father, 
Harry Ashton Gardner, was born at Wilmore, Cambria County, and was a 
prominent banker and accountant, his death taking place in 1919.  His mother 
was Julia (Over) Gardner, a native of Bedford, Bedford County.
  Ashton Gardner was educated in the public schools and is a graduate of the 
Martinsburg (West Virginia) High School.  He attended the Law School of the 
University of Pennsylvania, and further prepared for his profession by 
reading law in the office of Benjamin F. Warfel, of Hollidaysburg.  In 1924 
Mr. Gardner was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of 
Pennsylvania, at the same time becoming a member of the Blair County bar.  
He has been in practice ever since, with offices at No. 510 Allegheny 
Street.  His activities as a lawyer have brought him into the limelight in 
the county capital, which is the centre of nearly all legal affairs of the 
county.  he is a Past Master of Juniata Lodge, No. 282, Free and Accepted 
Masons, as was also his father, and belongs to all the bodies of the Ancient 
Accepted Scottish Rite, including the thirty-second degree.  He is also a 
member of the Claysburg Lodge, No. 713, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  
He belongs to the First Presbyterian Church of Hollidaysburg.  Mr. Gardner 
is unmarried.
