HABERSTROH was born in McKeesport, Allegheny County, August 6, 1894, the son of Louis F. Haberstroh, a native of Lock Haven, Clinton County, and now residing in Juniata, Blair County, Pennsylvania, and Mary A. (Fitzpatrick) Haberstroh, who was born in Ireland. John J. Haberstroh was educated in the grade and high schools of Juniata, in the Dickinson School of Law, from which he was graduated in 1915 with the degree of Bachelor of Laws, and he began his practice in Altoona in the year of his graduation, having been admitted to the bar soon after receiving his degree. He maintains offices in the Central Trust Building. In 1920 he was made county solicitor of Blair County, holding that post until 1924, and he has been Juniata's solicitor since 1920. He is also counsel for the Union Building and Loan Association, of the Provident Building and Loan Association, the People's Building and Loan Association, and the Mercy Hospital, all of Altoona. Mr. Haberstroh served in the United States Army from January 30, 1918, to April, 1919. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps on October 1, 1918, and served for several months as adjutant of the Watertown Arsenal, in Massachusetts. Mr. Haberstroh is a former commander of the American Legion Post in Altoona; and he is a member of the Blair County Bar Association, the Chamber of Commerce of Altoona, The Altoona Lions Club, and Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. Mr. Haberstroh married, August 22, 1922, Mary Esther Nowland, of Boston, and there is one daughter of this union, Lillian E. Haberstroh.
