HOWELL, M.D. - A well-known physician of Blair County, Pennsylvania, Dr. William H. Howell was born in Wellsboro, this State, May 15, 1873. His father, William Howell, is deceased, also his mother, Hannah Howell. William H. Howell attended the public school and the high school of Wellsboro, and from the latter went to the State Normal School, from which he was graduated with honors. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania and was graduated as a member of the class of 1899, with the degree of Medical Doctor, the degree of F.A.C.S. being added by the American College of Surgeons upon his later qualification. Dr. Howell served as interne at the Altoona Hospital from 1899 to 1900, when he commenced the general practice of medicine in that city at No. 1108 Thirteenth Avenue, where he still remains. Dr. Howell is chief physician of the gynecological department of the Altoona Hospital, and chief of staff of the Mercy Hospital of that city. He is a member of the Blair County Medical Society, of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, of the American Medical Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the local lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons; and of the Rotary Club and of the Blairmont Country Club. Dr. Howell married, in 1900, Mary B. Hartman, and they are the parents of two children: John C., a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, with the degree of Medical Doctor; and Martha, a graduate of the University of Michigan, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts.
