CALVIN LANG, JR. - Among Blair County's lawyers is one who, though he is already a man of remarkable achievement, is rapidly climbing to higher goals in the professional, public and social life of his locality. That man is J. Calvin Lang, Jr., a finished scholar, World War veteran, active and progressive citizen, and a well-known club and fraternal member, who is referee in bankruptcy for Blair County, is solicitor of the borough of Hollidaysburg, the county capital, and who is secretary of the Hollidaysburg Board of Health. The esteem accorded him by the populace of county and borough is given to few. J. Calvin Lang, Jr., was born in Hollidaysburg, January 18, 1891, the son of J. Calvin Lang, a native of Blair County, who is a successful insurance man of the county seat, and Martha (Kephart) Lang, who was horn in Frankstown Township, Blair County, and who died in Hollidaysburg in 1920. After finishing his preliminary education and being graduated from the Hollidaysburg High School, Mr. Lang matriculated in Gettysburg College, from which he was graduated in 1913 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He then took his legal course in the University of Pennsylvania law school, from which he was graduated in 1916 with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. That same year Gettysburg College conferred the degree of Master of Arts on him in recognition of his scholarly attainments. Admitted to the bar in Blair County soon after being graduated from the law school, Mr. Lang began the general practice of his profession in Hollidaysburg, opening offices at No. 422 1/2 Allegheny Street, where he has remained since, with increasing success. Recognition of his legal ability was given him when he was appointed referee in bankruptcy for the county and made solicitor for Hollidaysburg. He is active in public affairs of all kinds. Mr. Lang served in the United States Army from November 30, 1917, when he enlisted, until May 8, 1919, the date of his discharge. He was with the 446th Depot Engineers of the American Expeditionary Forces, and served with his battalion overseas for seventeen months. He held the rank of first-class sergeant and served in the railroad transportation department at Diou, France. He is a member of Portage Lodge, No. 220, Free and Accepted Masons; a director in the Hollidaysburg Young Men's Christian Association, and is conductor of the "Y" Glee Club. He is secretary of the Hollidaysburg Board of Health, and he holds memberships in the Pennsylvania State Bar Association, the Blair County Bar Association, the American Legion, in Hollidaysburg, the Miller Law Club of the University of Pennsylvania, the Hollidaysburg Club, the Blairmont Country Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other organizations. He and his family attend the Lutheran Church in the county capital. Mr. Lang married in Hollidaysburg, in 1924, Ethel Nokes, a native of that city.
