MACKEY - Prominent among the legal fraternity in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is Willis E. Mackey, who was born in Milesburg, Center [sic] County, in that State, August 27, 1872. Mr. Mackey's father, Martin H. Mackey, was born in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He was engaged as a contractor and builder until his death in 1913. He was a veteran of the Civil War, and served with the 148th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. Mr. Mackey's mother, Sarah R. (Swanger) Mackey, was born in Milroy, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. She died in 1918. Mr. Mackey's early education was in the public schools of Altoona, from which he went to State College, where he spent three years. Thence he went to Dickinson College, from which he was graduated in the class of 1897, with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. After graduation he began the practice of law in Altoona, and has continued to the present time. His office is in the Second National Bank Building. Mr. Mackey is a member of the American State and Blair County Bar associations. He is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of the Sons of Veterans, and of the Patriotic Order Sons of America. During the World War he served on the Legal Advisory Board of Altoona, of which he was secretary. He also served six years in the Pennsylvania National Guard, as battalion adjutant and acting adjutant of the 5th Regiment. Mr. Mackey was married, in 1917, to Dr. Ada Blair, born in Brisbane, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and they have one child, David B. Mackey.
