ROBB, D.D.S. - The profession that a man takes up for his following is often determined by the thought with which he grows up. For we become in time that which we think, as modern psychology so ably demonstrates. Two generations following each other in the practice of the same profession is a sure sign that success was found in it by the father, and that the son, early in life, became interested in the work to the extent of thinking that sooner or later he also would adopt it as his means of livelihood and self- expression. A man's work, when he loves that work, becomes the tool of his achievement, of his growth, of his success, and Dr. Guy C. Robb, who for the past three decades has been practicing dentistry successfully in Altoona, Pennsylvania, has grown, through his work, to be one of the men who best serves his community, not alone in his profession, but also in his civic, fraternal, church and social activities. The success that he has attained, however, has been accomplished by hard work, for there is no royal road to that achievement, genius itself being often a laggard in the race if it be not accompanied by this virtue of "keeping everlasting at it." Dr. Robb's course, to the attainment of his present high position in the regard of his section, has been a straightforward one; no deviation from his chosen goal has led him into bypaths of endeavor; and since his graduation and the receiving of his degree to practice dentistry, he has established himself in that field, and has moved steadily forward to his present substantial success. Many men find themselves and the work they love best to do by trying various lines before they finally settle on the one path that leads them to their desire; but in the case of Dr. Robb, he knew what he wanted to do at the outset, and knowledge becomes power. He has served for many years in local and State hospitals, in various civic and educational bodies, as well as in fraternal and church organizations, and he is always interested in any movement or work that is for the welfare of the people, or the advancement of his section. He loves his fellow-men; is kindly in his attitude to all, and service is a key word of action with him. With such qualities, Dr. Robb has well earned all that has come to him, and his career is one that could well be emulated by many of the rising generation of his locality. The son of a well-known dentist, who gave his services during the Civil War, Dr. Robb has the proud distinction of an inherited renown, to which he has contributed his quota of added lustre. Guy C. Robb was born June 1, 1873, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, son of Granville Livingston and Margaretta (Campbell) Robb. His mother was born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and is still living (1925). His father was also born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and was a practicing dentist, until his decease in 1902. He had achieved success, and during the Civil War he served with the Pennsylvania Volunteers, receiving his honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant. The son received his education in the public and high schools of his native town, and then attended Juniata College. He subsequently went to the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied dentistry, being graduated with his class of 1894 with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He began practice immediately, gaining experience in various places until 1895, when he established himself in Altoona, where he has continued to practice ever since. His offices, located at No. 1429 Twelfth Avenue, have been the scene of his continual advancement and progress in his profession, and he is held in high regard by his confreres as well as by all who come in touch with him. Dr. Robb has served on the staff of the Altoona Hospital for thirteen years; he has been the dentist for the State Sanitarium of Pennsylvania for some time past, and is doing valuable work in the connection. He is a member of the Central Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State and the National Dental societies. He also holds membership in the Blair County Historical Society, and belongs to the Free and Accepted Masons, being a member of the Blue Lodge. In his church connection he attends the Presbyterian Church. Dr. Guy C. Robb married, in 1902, Helen Mason, born in Altoona. Dr. and Mrs. Robb are the parents of two children: Charles G., and Amelia Lewis.
