New York: Lewis Historical Publishing Co., Inc., 1926, pages 121-122. _________________________________________ ISAIAH SCHEELINE - Among the prominent lawyers of Altoona, Pennsylvania, whose practice has constantly grown since they first were admitted to the bar, Isaiah Scheeline is recognized as one of the foremost. Mr. Scheeline's paternal and maternal forebears came from Germany. His father, Alexander Scheeline, was a native of Germany, who came to this country in 1853, and to Altoona, Pennsylvania in 1873, where he resided until his death in 1921. His mother Julia (Goldschmidt) Scheeline, was also a native of Germany. She died in 1904. Isaiah Scheeline was born in Altoona, March 10, 1878. He was educated at Altoona's primary and high schools, and then attended Lafayette College, and Dickenson Law School, from which he was graduated in the class of 1899, with the degree of LL.B. He desired to pursue his studies further, and read law in the offices of Hon. J. Banks Kurtz, and Alexander Vaughn, of Altoona, from 1899 to 1902, and then began to practice his profession. His affairs have prospered commensurately with his diligence and ability, and he is recognized as one of the leaders at the bar in his native city. He is senior member for the firm of Scheeline & Smith, with commodious offices at Nos. 403-406 Commercial Building, Altoona. He serves as secretary and treasurer of the Westfall Company Mr. Scheeline has always taken a deep interest in his city's progress, and aided it in every way possible, having been chairman of the Board of Welfare of the City of Altoona for two years. He has for many years been attorney for the Chamber of Commerce of Altoona, and is a prominent member of several organizations. He was Democratic candidate for Congress in 1910 and elector-at-large in 1914. He belongs to the Free and Accepted Masons, and has participated in all bodies of the Scottish Rite, including the Shrine. He is a member of the Phi Epsilon Pi Fraternity, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the American Jewish Committee, the Blair County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Jaffa Shrine, Summit Country Club and Tyrone Golf Club. Mr. Scheeline married, in 1916, Julia Schoenfeld, of Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Scheeline is active in the charities and other affairs of Altoona and throughout Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Allegheny College, class of 1897, with the degree of B.A., and a graduate of Columbia University with the degree of A.M. She was field secretary of the playground and recreation committee of America for a number of years, and has been head worker in the Irene Kaufman Settlement House of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Mr. and Mrs. Scheeline are the parents of one child, Isaiah, Jr.
