SMITH - Among the members of the legal profession in Altoona, Pennsylvania, esteemed in civic and social relations as well as in the law, is Homer I. Smith. He was born in Frankstown Township, Pennsylvania, September 3, 1891. His education in the public schools of his native town, from which he went to the high school at Hollidaysburg, and from that he entered Washington and Jefferson College, from which he was graduated in the class of 1913 with the degree of Bachelor of Law. In the same year he received the degree of Master of Arts from Washington and Jefferson University. Since 1916 Mr. Smith has practiced law in Altoona, and he is now a member of the firm of Scheeling & Smith, with offices in the Commerce Building. Mr. Smith is a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity; a member of the Masons; a past commander of the Charles R. Rowan Post, No. 228, Altoona Post, of the American Legion; a member of the Chamber of Commerce, of Altoona, of the Blair County Association; the Pennsylvania State Bar Association; the Blairmont Country Club; the Hollidaysburg Club; and other bodies. He is a partner in and business manager of the "Blair County Legal Journal." Mr. Smith enlisted in the United States Army, in the Ordnance Corps, in January, 1918, and was discharged May 2, 1919, with the rank of sergeant. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. Smith's father, T. Irvin Smith, born in Scotch Valley, Blair County, Pennsylvania, was engaged as a farmer and merchant until his retirement some time ago. He is still living. Mr. Smith's mother, Blanche (Brua) Smith, born in Frankstown Township, Pennsylvania, is also living.
