WEIDEL - Big commercial interests regard Daniel G. Weidel as one of their most representative men, and his position in the commercial world seems to justify this opinion, for Mr. Weidel is second vice-president of the G.W. Shaffer Stores Company, one of the largest concerns in the State of Pennsylvania, with which Mr. Weidel has been identified for many years. He is prominent in civic affairs and in social and fraternal circles of Altoona, and is held in high esteem throughout Blair County. Daniel G. Weidel was born in Altoona, March 24, 1885, the son of Edgar L. Weidel, a native of Altoona, and an iron moulder, and Clara (Crouse) Weidel, also a native of Altoona. Mr. Weidel received his education in the grade and high schools of Altoona, and on finishing his schooling entered the grocery business, in which he remained until 1911, when he became associated with the G.W. Shaffer Stores Company, as partner and manager of one of its chain stores at No. 1508 Eleventh Street, in Altoona. Here he was for five years, and then in 1916 was made partner and manager of the store in Juniata, a suburb of Altoona. In 1920, when the Shaffer Stores Company became incorporated, Mr. Weidel was made second vice-president. His able administration of affairs of the G.W. Shaffer Stores Company have brought him into prominence. Mr. Weidel is a member of the Altoona Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of the Altoona Chapter of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, the Knights of Malta, the United Commercial Travelers' Association, and the Altoona Chamber of Commerce. He and the members of his family attend the Grace Lutheran Church, of Altoona. Mr. Weidel married, in 1910, Daisy May Gardner, of Altoona.
