New York: Lewis Historical Publishing Co., Inc., 1926, page 33. _________________________________________ JOHN WOODCOCK is a leading lawyer of Hollidaysburg, and he is an active and prominent citizen of the borough and Blair County. Associated with his father, William I. Woodcock, a foremost member of the County and State bar, Mr. Woodcock is well known in public and professional affairs, and he is active in various fields. John Woodcock was born in Hollidaysburg, June 27, 1886. His father, William I. Woodcock, was born in Bedford, Bedford County, August 21, 1850, and he was educated in the public schools and the State Normal School of the county. He read law in the office of W. Lee Woodcock and was admitted to the bar in 1877, and has been in practice in Hollidaysburg ever since. He is a member of the Hollidaysburg Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; of the Blair County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Blairmont Country Club, the Juniata Hunting and Fishing Club, and he is a former president and at the present time an active member of the Blair County Historical Society. The senior Mr. Woodcock has served two terms as a school director of Hollidaysburg, and he is a director in the Hollidaysburg Trust Company and in the Central Trust Company of Altoona, Pennsylvania. His wife, the mother of John Woodcock, was Elizabeth Ugnast, a native of India. The Woodcock family attends the Hollidaysburg Methodist Church. John Woodcock was educated in the public and high schools of Hollidaysburg, in the preparatory school of Dickinson College, in the Kiskiminetas Springs School, and Williams College, being graduated from the latter in 1908 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He took his law studies in the Dickinson Law School, and he was admitted to the bar in 1912. He maintains offices at No. 507 Allegheny Street, in association with his father. John Woodcock is a director and secretary of the board of trustees of the Hollidaysburg Young Men's Christian Association. He also is a member of the Allegheny Grange; of the Hollidaysburg Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, the Delta Chi Fraternity, the Blair County Bar Association, the Blairmont Country Club, and the Altoona Cricket Club. Mr. Woodcock married, in 1917, Marjorie Sprecher, a native of Sykesville, Maryland, and there are two children of this union: Virginia Ann, and John, Jr.
