PASSED AS CENSORED A 2049 AEF ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Poinsenot France AMERICAN YMCA ON ACTIVE SERVICE WITH THE AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE Monday, Mch. 17, 1919 Dear Conwell, Received your letter yesterday. Certainly was glad you wrote to me as you can imagine am anxiously looking for mail everyday. Am glad everyone is well, hope they continue so. Yes I read in the Altoona Mirror of Charley McIntosh. Was very sorry to know it but one has to expect that in war. Yes I was in Montfalian [Montfaucon-d'Argonne?]. On Nov. 10 we passed there. I sent home a list of all the towns we were in overnight (?) since coming over here. When you go out ask mother to see it. You ask me how I like France by now. I will answer you when I see you which I hope won't be so long as it seems now. Am sorry I can't send you a cootie but you see where we now are we have gotten almost all them killed. You see we have a bath house in this town and we have been here for over three months and of course boiled our clothes and used stuff to kill them so that I guess I can't find any to send. As to helmets I only have mine the one I wore. Could have gotten all kinds of them when we were in the Argonne but was too near all in at that time to carry any more weight then. I just had to have you know we were hiking for thirty seven days and we did not care for having anything extra to carry. Am sorry Chester* had his stuff stolen but he is lucky to be home so soon. Give my love to your Mother, Father & all and write to me soon again. As ever, Pvt. Russel C. Burger Co. B 17 M. G. Bn. A E F CENSORED W. H. Craig 1st Lieut 17th M. G.
