Jackson to M. W. Keim This Lease made the 18th day of May A. D. 1887 by and between Mariah J. Jackson Allegheny Township of the county of Blair and state of Pennsylvania of the first part and M. W. Keim of Johnstown Borough, County of Cambria and state as aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part in consideration of the stipulations, rents and covenants hereinafter contained on the part of the said party of the second part, his executors, administrators and assigns to be paid kept and performed has granted devised and let unto the said party of the second part, his executors, administrators and assigns for the sole and only purposes of mining and excavating for petroleum, coal rock or carbon oil or volatile substances and for the laying of pipe either under or on top of said surface, for transportation of oil and gas. All of that certain tract of land situate in Allegheny Township Blair County and state of Pennsylvania and bounded and described as follows to wit on the west by lands of Elijah Berkey, on the north by Alexanders heirs, on the south by A. Johnson on the east by John Owens containing Thirty one acres more or less. Reserving Three acres around the buildings and orchard. To have and to hold the said premises for the said purposes only. Unto the said party of the second part his executors administrators or assigns for during and until the full term of twenty years, next ensuing the day and year above written. The said party of the second part hereby covenants in consideration of the said grant and demise to deliver unto the said party of the first part their heirs and assigns, the full equal one Twelfth part of the petroleum, coal, rock, or carbon oil or volatile substances discovered, excavated pumped and raised on the premises herein leased as produced, excavated, or pumped in the crude state. The stated party of the first part is to fully use and enjoy the said premises for the purpose of tillage except such part as shall be necessary for said mining purposes and a right of way over and across the said premises to the place or places of mining or excavating. The said party of the second part agrees to deliver to the party of the first part the full equal one twenty fourth part of natural gas. The said party of the first part covenants to grant to the said party of the second part the right to remove any machinery or fixtures placed on said premises by said party of the second part. The party of the second part covenants to commence operations for said mining purposes within two years from the execution of this Lease. If no gas or oil is discovered by boreing (sic) or any of the said Leases obtained or hereafter to be obtained in Allegheny or Blair Townships, Blair County Pennsylvania by the party of the second part within two years from the date hereof then the obligation to be null and void. In witness whereof, We the said parties of the first and second parts have hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year above written. Maria J X Jackson M. W. Shoenfelt Blair County SS State of Pennsylvania On the second day of June AD 1887 before me a Justice of the Peace came the above named Maria J. Jackson and M. W. Keim and acknowledged the foregoing Indenture to be their act and deed desiring the same to be recorded as such she the said Maria J. Jackson being of full age and by me examined separate and apart and the contents of the above Indenture being first made fully known to her declared that she did of her own free will and accord sign and seal, and as her act and deed deliver the same without any coercion or compulsion.
