No. 50, Page 448 Survey Book: Volume C, No. 168, Page 101 The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, SS Whereas, John McCartney of the township of Allegheny county of Huntingdon hath applied for three hundred Acres of Land including an Improvement adjoining land of Rees Rees on the South East, Frederick Yingling on the East, Alexander Gwin on the north & Robert Allison on the west. Situate in Allegheny township in the County of Huntingdon for which he hath paid into the office of the State Treasurer, at the rate of fifty shillings per hundred acres. Interest thereon from the 1st of March 1804 to be paid agreeably to the several Acts of Assembly, in such case made and provided: These are therefore, To authorize and require you to survey, or cause to be surveyed, unto the said John McCartney the quantity of acres by him applied for, at the place aforesaid, if not already surveyed or appropriated and to make return thereof into the Land Office, for which this shall be your Warrant. Surveyor General Patent Book Volume H, No. 50, Page 448: Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, William Bigler to all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting: Know ye, that in consideration of the Monies paid by John McCartney at the granting of the [warrant] hereinafter Mentioned and of the sum of five Dollars and thirty three Cents in full were paid by him into the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John McCartney a certain tract of Land Situate in Logan Township in the County of Blair. Beginning at a white oak on the Bank of the Juniata thence by the Allegheny Mountain South [sixty] five Degrees West, 65 perches to a Chestnut North forty eight Degrees West, [twelve] perches to a Chestnut Oak South Seventy five degrees West [Sixteen] perches to a post, North fifty five Degrees West one hundred and forty four perches to a post. South twenty Degrees Eighteen [minutes] west one hundred and eighty perches and one tenth to a Chestnut Oak, South sixty nine and a half Degrees East Sixty four perches to a post. North fifty one Degrees East eighty perches to a post North Eighty Eight and a half Degrees East, twenty Eight perches to White Oak, South twenty two Degrees, East, one hundred and fifteen perches to a Chestnut Oak. North seventy five Degrees West twelve perches, [South sixty six] degrees West fourteen and five eights perches North seventy five degrees West, fifty five perches, North eighty eight degrees West twenty one perches South Eighty two and a half Degrees, West twenty perches, West twenty six perches to the Beginning Containing three Hundred Eighty acres and allowance which said tract was surveyed in pursuance of a warrant dated the 22 June 1838 granted to the said John McCartney. To have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with the appurtenances, unto the said John McCartney and his heirs to the use of him the said John McCartney his heirs and assigns forever. Free and clear of all restrictions and Reservations as to Monies, Royalties, [---------] or otherwise , excepting and reserving only the fifth part of all Gold and Silver Ore, for the use of the Commonwealth to be delivered to the Pit's Mouth, clear of all charges. In witness where of William Bigler Governor of the said Commonwealth, hath hereunto put his hand, and the Seal of the Surveyor General's Office of Pennsylvania hath hereunto affixed, the twenty fifth day of April in the year of our Lord 1853 and of the Seventy seven. Yingling two witnesses who being duly sworn, [-----] and saith to their certain knowledge the above described tract of land was first improved in the year 1804 and not before, the grain has been raised thereon and that there has been an actual settlement kept up on the said tract of land ever since and that a family now resides there.
