Kidd was the son of Joseph and Mary 'Nancy' Kidd of Blair Co., PA. These notes were taken from his Civil War Pension file (Certificate #763374, Widows Cert. #559402), National Archives, Washington, DC. He received Survivor's Service Pension, Mexican War, September 12, 1887 Received $12.00/month. Last payment April 4, 1903. Joseph Kidd died May 8, 1903. Spouse: Mary Ann Weaver Kidd - died July 31, 1907. Received $8.00 (6/12/1903- 7/4/1907) PENSION APPLICATION from Joseph Kidd: 9/6/1887 States he is 63 years old. Born in Chester, PA. Residence: Front Street, Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA. He is a coach maker. MEXICAN WAR SERVICE: Corporal, Co. 'M', 2nd Regiment of PA Volunteers. Enlisted May 1, 1847, Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA; honorably discharged July 14, 1848, Pittsburgh, PA. He was engaged in the skirmish at Natural Bridge and other skirmishes up to the City of Mexico - the taking of Chapultepec - [Gareth De Belair] under General John A. Duttman, and the taking of the City of Mexico. He was a non-commissioned officer of the [?] troope De Belair. Ordered by General Duttman into the City to report the moment the Mexicans were at the Citadel. Joseph command a detail of two men from each regiment for that duty and all were killed but himself. CIVIL WAR SERVICE: Private, Co. 'C', 3rd PA Infantry from Blair Co., PA; enlisted April 20, 1861; discharge July 30, 1861, Harrisburg, PA. AFFIDAVIT from Pension Board Official 9/30/1891 "Claimant is a broken down man suffering from both physical and nervous prostrations dependant upon increasing age, he being tottering in walk and no muscular power..." AFFIDAVIT from Joseph Kidd 1/15/1898 He was married to Mary A. Weaver in 1849, Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA by E. McKirnan, Esq. [A statement is also supplied by Edward McKirnan that he married Joseph Kidd and Mary Weaver on February 26, 1849] His following children were still living (as written): W. S. Kidd [Winfield Scott Kidd], J. H. Kidd [John A. Kidd], Kathrine, Lucy, Ella, Jinie [Virginia], Minie. LETTER from Commissioner's Office, Williamsburg, PA 6/10/1903 Joseph Kidd's house and grounds are valued at $1,200.00 AFFIDAVIT from Mrs. Eleanor P. Fositz/Foristz/Firitz, Altoona, PA 8/10/1903 States she was his daughter and she knows her father died May 8, 1903 at his home at 4:20 am and was buried at the cemetery in Williamsburg on Sunday, May 10, 1903. "Mrs. Eleanor P. Firitz further says her mother is entirely dependant and has no revenue from any source whatsoever and by reason of her age and infirmities" is unable to earn a living. MISCELLENEOUS: - Mary Ann Weaver Kidd has less than $300.00 at Joseph's death. His will states she can live in the house until her death at which time it goes to their children. -Applied because of nervous and senile disability.
