The following notes were taken from his Civil War Pension File #322.371, Certificate #825975, National Archives, Washington, DC. CIVIL WAR SERVICE: Private, Battery 'B', 1st Regiment Light Artillery PA. Enlisted February 27, 1864; discharged June 9, 1865. Description: 5' 7", fair complexion, gray eyes, auburn hair, laborer. INVALID: Accident June 1865 near City Point, VA. While drilling he was thrown from a caisson and run over by its wheel injuring his back. He was shipped by boat to Washington while his company marched there. MISCELLANEOUS: - Winfield Scott Kidd was born September 4, 1847, Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA - William S. Kidd married Emma Stouffer December 15, 1868 by Reverend J. Moorhead, Petersburg, Huntingdon Co., PA. Emma was 17 years old when she married Winfield. The minister and his wife were the only ones present at the ceremony. - Emma Stouffer was born September 22, 1851; died May 25, 1929 - Winfield died July 1, 1917 when an automobile struck him in McKeesport, PA and he died within half an hour. - Buried July 5, 1917, Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon, PA - Lived in Williamsburg until enlisted. The spring following discharge he moved to Mill Creek, Huntingdon Co., PA. Fifteen months later he moved to Huntingdon, PA and stayed there. - After the service he went to learn the carpenter trade with A. J. Weaver of Sunny Dale, (Sedrick) Co., Kansas who was then at Mill Creek, Huntingdon Co., PA - 8 children born between 1869-1894 Children: 1. Joseph L. Kidd b. September 24, 1869 2. George Kidd b. June 5, 1872 3. Charles R. Kidd b. October 10, 1874 4. Jesse A. Kidd b. July 29, 1877 5. Elmer E. Kidd b. March 24, 1880 6. Edgar Kidd b. June 28, 1889 7. 'Boy' Kidd died as infant 8. Bert F. Kidd b. April 3, 1894.
