All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ ___________________________________________ Civil War pension file for Jacob Kifer of Blair County, Pennsylvania DECLARATION FOR PENSION State of Pennsylvania, County of Blair, On this 24th Day of May, AD One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twelve, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of the Common Pleas Court within and for the county and State aforesaid, Jacob Kifer, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is 69 years of age and a resident of Lakemont, County of Blair, State of Pennsylvania, and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Huntingdon, Pennsylvania under the name of Jacob Kifer on the 6th day of July 1863 as a Private in Company I, 46th Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia in the service of the United States in the Civil War and was honorably discharged at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on the 18th of August 1863. That he also served as a private in Company B, 208th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers, enrolled at Williamsburg, Pennsylvania on August 18th, 1864 and honorably discharged 1st of June, 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 feet 7 1/2 inches, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair and that his occupation was Farmer, and that he was born 19th of August 1844 at Woodbury Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: Shellytown, Pennsylvania until 1889, and at Lark, Pennsylvania until 29 Feb 1911 and now at Lakemont, Pennsylvania. That he is a pensioner under certificate number 766111 That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of May 11, 1912. His Post Office address is Lakemont, County of Blair, State of Pennsylvania. Attest: Mary B. Snoberger [Snowberger] and Maria Sell Subscribed and Sworn before me this 24th May AD 1912 and I hereby certify that the contents of the above declaration were fully made known and explained to the applicant before swearing, and that I have no interest, direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim. Sell, Deputy ======================================================== Miscellaneous affidavits within the pension file include the following: 15 July 1912: William Richardson, who says he was born 12 Sept 1836 in the part of Huntington County that became Blair County. Richardson indicates he has known Jacob Kifer since he was 15 and his wife, Elizabeth Loy since she was about 20 years old, that she came to Blair County before her marriage to live with a family named Pectel. 20 July 1912: Martin Royer, who says that he was born 16 Feb 1846, has known Jacob Kifer for fifty years, and that he was at their "serenading" when they were married.
