Lamca Information from his Civil War papers: Never married before. Signed with a Mark " X " which indicates that he could not write. Prvt.,Co.G,17 Pa.Cavalry Sworn in as a recruit on August 30,1864 for a one year enlistment age 25. Sworn in by 1st.Sgt. W.W. Gibson, Co.G, 76th Reg. of Pa. Vol.for 17th Pa. Cavalry Received a bounty of $100 for enlistment. Served at St.Remount Camp, City Point,Va. Mustered out at Clouds Mills,Va. June 16,1865 two months after Lee's surrender at Appomattix,Va. Traveled around the country extensively from the time of his discharge in June 1865 until his marriage in 1875. John received a retirement pension of $77 per month. Had $883.12 in the Union Bank at the time of his death Jan.1,1928. Held a Prudential Life Insurance policy. Cause of death listed as a "Carcuioaeata of right ear." Cause also listed as "cancer and complications of disease." He owned no property. 5"6" tall, Hazel eyes, Brown hair. Address where he died was 110 E.7th St.,Atoona,Pa.
