Kidd. The following notes were taken from his Civil War Pension file at the National Archives, Washington, DC David Walters died May 7, 1912, Shade Gap, PA Spouse: Mary M. Norris - Mary died in 1921. Last check for $30.00 sent 7/4/1921 was returned by postmaster because of death. CIVIL WAR SERVICE: Private, Co. 'E', 84th PA Vol. Infantry commanded by Colonel Bowman. Enrolled September 9, 1862; discharged June 21, 1865, Douglas US Hospital, Washington, DC. During Battle of Deep Bottom, VA on or about August 10, 1864, he received a gun shot wound in his right leg below the knee; contracted Catarrh [thick mucus that collects in the throat or may run from the nose of a person with a long- continued head cold] due to marching in the winter and exposure which resulted in deafness near 'Falmoth' December, 1862; frosted feet contracted at Brandy Station on picket duty in January 1863. Spent time at the hospital at Finley Hospital at City Point, VA, Harewood Hospital at Washington, DC; Douglas Hospital at Washington, DC. Description: 5'8", fair complexion, light hair, brown eyes. DECLARATION FOR PENSION by David S. Walters 2/25/1907 States he was born November 17, 1844, 'Dunkinsvill', Blair Co., PA. Since he was discharged he has lived in Mount Union, Shade Gap, Huntingdon Co., PA; Newry, Blair Co., PA; Shirleysburg, Huntingdon Co., PA; Path Valley, Franklin Co., PA; Shade Gap, Huntingdon Co . PA, Bellwood, Blair Co., PA. Occupation is a wagon maker. AFFIDAVIT from Anna M. Smith, Hollidaysburg, PA (age 76) 1912 Witnessed the marriage of David S. Walters and Mary M. Walters on the 13th day of March, 1862 performed by William H. Hunt, Pastor of the Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA. [in 2nd affidavit a Jane Brantner, Williamsburg, age 67, states she witnessed their marriage also]. AFFIDAVIT from David S. Walters 7/4/1895 Married Mary M. Norris in Williamsburg, PA in March 1861 by Lutheran Minister, Mr. Hunt. We have a marriage certificate. Children Living (as written): Ulisess S. G. Walters Frank B. Walters Howard H. Walters Newton Walters M. Walters Linnie J. Walters Della E. Walters Elmer E. Walters, oldest, was killed in the P.R.R. Shops at Altoona, PA AFFIDAVIT from John Walters, Water Street, Huntington, PA Worked with his brother, David, in a stone quarry in 1861 and his brother was very healthy then. AFFIDAVIT from D.R. Neely Neighbor of David Walters. Ordered a buggy to be built by David Walters in October 1865. David couldn't finish it on time because he had an attack of Catarrh disease. MISCELLANOUS: - Mary M. Walters was born August 2, 1842, Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA. - David Walter was born November 17, 1844, Duncansville, Blair Co., PA; died May 7, 1912. - Attesting for Mary on 5/16/1912: Grant Bair and C. M. Norris, both of Shade Gap, PA - stated on June 2, 1879 - David Walters was 35 years old - wagon maker
