Three common drunks were locked up last night. The case of the commonwealth vs. W. W. John and Samuel Rickabaugh, charged with trespassing, before Alderman J. J. Irwin, will be heard at 8 this evening. Annie Jones has made information before Alderman J. B. Raymond against Jacob Stalb, charging him with assault and battery. The case will be heard this morning at 10. Mrs. L. Berman charges Mrs. Cecelia Carp, before Alderman T. D. Crawford with assault and battery on her child, who, it is alleged, she struck on the mouth with a stone. The case will be heard next Monday. Henry W. Cowley did not escape from the almshouse, as stated in yesterday's issue, but was taken away from that institution six weeks ago by a relative, who informed Steward Bridenbaugh that he would care for the old gentleman at his home in Altoona. C. Babb and Barney Thompson were arrested yesterday for trespassing on the railroad. The latter is a pupil from the Carlisle Indian School. A telegram was received last night from the school, saying that an officer would be after the young fellow to take him back to his studies. A traveling man reported to the police yesterday that he had set his satchel down in the Brant House and when he came to look for it, it was gone. It was learned that a minister, in going away from the house, had exchanged grips with the drummer, leaving the clerical one and taking the one full of samples. Altoona Times, Saturday, July 18, 1903
