Chandler and James Shelton Charged With Crime at Cincinnati William C. Chandler and James Shelton, alias Luettie Shelton, both aged 21 and colored, were arrested at Tenth avenue and Fourteenth street at 7:45 o'clock last evening by Detective Warren Hauser and Sergeant R. J. Haverty of the city police force on the charge of being implicated in the murder of a Cincinnati, O., patrolman early this week. Both were taken to city hall and locked up to await the coming of an officer from Cincinnati. The city police distinguished themselves for quick service in making the arrest, the two men being taken into custody in but a little over an hour after a telegram was received here by Chief Tillard warning him to be on the lookout for the pair. Both Chandler and Shelton came here Thursday morning and secured jobs with the Pennsy as truckers, cards taken from them at police station revealing the fact that they had been sent here by the Pennsy labor bureau in Cincinnati. Neither were registered under the army draft. When brought to the police station Shelton was without a coat and had nothing on his person save the employment bureau card issued by the Pennsy office at 430 Central avenue, Cincinnati. Upon searching Chandler the officers found a large caliber revolver shell, several keys and a box of dice. No weapons of any kind were discovered. Chief Tillard immediately wired Chief William Coplan of Cincinnati notifying him of the arrest. While the prisoners deny that they were connected with the crime the police here are confident that they have the proper parties. It is not known whether the men will waive extradition or not.
