GIARTH WOUNDED IN ACTION IN FRANCE PRIVATE WILLIAM C. GIARTH [photo] Private William Chester Giarth, son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Giarth, of 3009 Spruce avenue, and a member of Company G, 110th regiment, is numbered among the Altoona boys who were engaged in the heroic fighting in the Chateau Thierry sector and who was wounded, fortunately not seriously. Private Giarth in a letter received by his mother yesterday disclosed that he had been injured and was now located in Base Hospital No. 48. The letter follows: Just a few lines to let you know that I am getting along very good. I have been in a battle and am wounded in the left leg. I am in a base hospital and am getting treated fine. There are a couple of fellows from my company who are in the same ward. The doctors I don't think you could find any better and the same way with the nurses. This is all for this time. I will try and write more the next time. Altoona Tribune, Wednesday morning, August 21, 1918, page 8
