Mengel, 721 Seventh avenue, Juniata, this Christmas marking their golden wedding anniversary. Fifty years ago today, December 25, 1889, The Rev. Elias K. Henry of Pine Grove, Pa., united in marriage Eva Katherine Koch and William Adam Mengel of Auburn, Schuylkill county, a the home of the bride, Lorberry, Fremont township, Schuylkill county. To this marriage was born 11 children, ten of whom are living and eight who, with their families, will help the couple celebrate the double event today, two of the sons being employed in western states and unable to be present. There are also 11 living grandchildren, most of them being on hand to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Mengel today. Mr. and Mrs. Mengel moved to Altoona in 1900, having lived in Juniata since that time. Mr. Mengel was employed as a brakeman for the Pennsylvania Railroad company, having been retired in July 1937. The couple are enjoying good health, Mr. Mengel having completely recovered from a serious illness which necessitated the amputation of his left leg this summer. Aside from the usual Christmas celebration, Mr. and Mrs. Mengel are having "open house" all day today and cordially invite all of their numerous friends to visit with them and share with them the memories that have accumulated with the years.
