Metzger Gets Commission as First Lieutenant - Leave Thursday Dr. Carl H. Metzgar, of 1424 Twelfth avenue, police surgeon for the last three years, and one of the best known physicians in the city, will leave next Thursday for Camp Greenleaf, Ga., to begin his duties as first lieutenant in the army medical corps. Dr. Metzger took the examination from regular army officers at Pittsburg several months ago and recently received his commission. He has practiced in Altoona for the last decade and succeeded Dr. Logan Hull, now a first lieutenant in France, as police surgeon. Following his graduation from Jefferson Medical college, Philadelphia, Dr. Metzger located here and has since remained. He will tender his resignation as police surgeon this week and on Thursday will depart for the Georgia camp, in response to a summons for duty coming several days ago.
