Meyers, Formerly of Altoona, Confesses the Murder of James Weir. Charles Ellsworth Meyers, charged with the murder of James Weir at Independence, Missouri, has, according to information received by his father, Capt. Thomas C. Meyers, in Altoona, Friday, made a confession of his crime. In his confession he says that he and John Bogard were looking for work and went from Kansas City to Independence to find it. In the railroad station there the man Weir was sleeping. Bogard said he had lots of swag, and suggested that he be held up and relieved of it. Bogard then got an iron coupling pin and handed it to Meyers, who says he refused to use it on Weir. Board then taunted him by calling him a coward. He proved that he was not by striking Weir on the head. Weir moved a little and Meyers struck him again twice. He fell to the floor dead. Bogard took the money from Weir's pocket and handed it to Meyers, who returned $22.50 of it to Bogard. In conclusion Meyers says "I was hard up and cold and did not mean to kill the man when I struck him. I don't care what becomes of me. I will plead guilty in court to the charge of killing him."
