About 10 o'clock a patriotic service was opened with the singing of "America," after which a stirring address was delivered by Mr. James Savage. A service flag in honor of the boys of the family who are in service was presented by Mrs. Amber Strauser. Misses Marie Wolf and Grace Savage acted as flag bearers and Misses Aurandt and Dorothy Savage as color bearers. The flag contained nine stars, representing the following boys: Raymond Savage, Alvin Green, Oscar Savage, Wilmont Maddison, George Aurandt, Paul Herlt, Mr. Herlt, Roy Stewart and Roy Nole. At noon young and old gathered at a long table spread under the trees and did justice to the sumptuous dinner. Several races were held in the afternoon, with the following winners: Sack race for ladies, Mrs. Strauser; running race for ladies, Mrs. Hoffman; nail driving contest, Mrs. James Savage; sac race for men, Paul McFarlane; running race for men, Paul McFarlane; race for children, Porter Earle. The running race for old ladies was won by Mrs. James Savage, who in spite of her 83 years is one of the most active members of the family. After a delicious supper had been served the following officers were elected: President, James Savage; vice president, David Savage; secretary, Mrs. Hoffman; assistant secretary, Mrs. Mary Savage; treasurer, Charlie Cogan. The day was delightful throughout and the picnickers left for their homes about 9 o'clock, with many pleasant memories. It was decided to hold all reunions at the old homestead the third Saturday of August every year as long as the grandparents can act as host and hostess.
