SHADLE RECOVERING NICELY Altoona Boy With Fighting Seventh Regiment First Over the Top Lieutenant Charles C. Shadle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac T. Shadle, of 2016 Eleventh street, is doing nicely in a hospital in France and recovering from wounds he received in action about the middle of July. His parents received a most cheering letter from him yesterday and in it he expresses the desire to get back at the Huns. Lieutenant Shadle is a member of Company L, Seventh regiment, one of the old fighting commands of the United States army. It was one of the commands that started the great drive that has ended in the Huns being forced back to the old Hindenberg line. He was wounded by being hit by a piece of shrapnel. He speaks lightly of his hurt, saying it was a wound in the thigh and that a hole was torn from the flesh in which one could place his fist. He says that he is recovering fine and will be back at them again in a couple of months. Altoona Tribune, Saturday morning, August 17, 1918, page 12
