SHADLE [photo] Lieutenant Shadle is connected with Company L, Seventh U.S. infantry, which is a part of one of the big army corps that is warring in the big battle on the Marne. He is well known here and enlisted in the Fifteenth Engineers at Pittsburg, has been in France for more than a year and won promotion there for his bravery. His parents heard of his being wounded through their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charles S. Shadle. They also received a letter from their son, Wallis, who is with the Fifteenth Engineers, and he says that his brother has been recommended for a captaincy. The parents believe that Lieutenant Shadle is in pretty good shape or he would not have been able to write a letter back home to his wife. Altoona Tribune, Wednesday morning, August 7, 1918, page 10
