Shaw of north of Newry celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary on Sunday. The anniversary fell on March 14, but owing to the fact that the home of their daughter, Mrs. Carrie Yingling, was under quarantine at that time for scarlet fever, the celebration was not held then. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw did not know of the arrangements for the families to gather at their home and it was a most pleasant surprise for them. It was a double celebration, the other event being the birthday anniversary of their daughter, Mrs. Carrie Yingling. On March 14, 1880, Austin P. Shaw of Juniata township and Anna K. Burtnet of Wilmore township, Cambria county, were united in marriage by Rev. A. E. Fulton, pastor of the United Brethren church at Pine Grove, at the home of John Shaw. They went to housekeeping in [**here the copy is cut off**] the undertaking business, later moving to a farm west of Newry, where he combined farming with his former work. Some years ago they retired and moved to their present modern home, north of town, which they built. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw have three sons and two daughters and sixteen grandchildren, all of whom were present on Sunday except one grandson, John Yingling, who is employed at Greenwood, N.Y. A sumptuous dinner was served by the ladies of the group, one of the special features being the beautifully decorated wedding cake baked by the youngest granddaughter, Algie Shaw, who is 11 years of age. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Austin Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Shaw and children Kessler, Algie, Forrest, Austin, Wayne and Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Long and sons Robert, Blaine and Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Shaw and sons Ronald, Clair and Merle of Newry, Robert Shaw of Duncansville and Mrs. Carrie Yingling and children Alverta, Ellwood and Edwin of Altoona.
