Emerick, of Bellwood, Reported Missing from 110th Regiment Clark Emerick, aged 27, of Bellwood, and bugler for company C, 110th regiment, is reported as missing in action, according to a telegram just received by his father, James E. Emerick. The young man was working at Somerset when war was declared and he enlisted in company C last April a year ago. He was reported missing after an engagement on July 15, and the supposition is that he has been made a prisoner. Sergeant Charles E. Killinger, son of Mrs. Ivy Killinger, of 204 Maple avenue, is spending a furlough at his home and with friends in the city. He is in the marine corps and has seen nineteen months' service on the U.S.S. Montana. Edward S. Attig, of company C, Nineteenth Engineers, in France, in a letter received by his brother, J. F. Attig, of 1202 Nineteenth avenue, says he is a cook for his company and is enjoying good health and having a fine time. He enlisted in June, 1917, and previous to that time was employed in the East Altoona round house. Altoona Tribune, Friday morning, August 16, 1918, page 5 TYRONE DRAFTEES GO TO COLLEGES Twelve young men were sent away yesterday afternoon by District Draft Board No. 2, for a thorough training in automobile work. After completing the course the young soldiers will be assigned to positions in the army. Six of the crowd went to the University of Pittsburg, while the remainder were sent to Lafayette college at Easton. Those going to Easton are as follows: Franklin L. McCanns and George D. Grazier, Tyrone; James E. Wills, Juniata; Blair W. Dunn and Merrill Doran, Bellwood; August J. Shillig, Juniata. University of Pittsburg will receive the following: Servia V. Wiley, Tyrone; Carle E. Saylor, Joseph W. Guida, James J. Moses, Forrest A. Wilt, Altoona; William J. Elder, Juniata. Altoona Tribune, Friday morning, August 16, 1918, page 6 POPULAR BELLWOOD PRIEST WILL TAKE UP LABORS WITH ARMY AT CAMP FUNSTON Rev. Father J. A. Howard, rector of the St. Joseph's Catholic church, has been appointed a chaplain in the United States army. He was so advised yesterday and he will make plans to enter upon his duties early in September. He is one of a half a dozen priests of the Altoona diocese that volunteered for the service at the annual retreat held at Loretto recently. Rev. Father Howard has been stationed at Bellwood since 1912, is very popular there and has a wide circle of friends in this city.
