UMBOWER [photo] Juniata Soldier With Engineers in Alaska Pfc. George D. Umbower, aged 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Umbower of 1422 Tenth avenue, Juniata, is stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, with company A, battalion C, 2nd engineers, and engaged in building huts and roads in that section, his parents have learned. Pfc. Umbower left the Altoona High school in his junior year to enlist in the army on Feb. 25. He was given his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., and arrived in Alaska on June 1.
