WOLFE [photo] WILLIAM H. WOLFE [photo] Open House to Mark Couple's Golden Jubilee Fifty years of happily married life are being crowned today for Mr. and Mrs. William H. Wolfe of 224 Third avenue, who will be guests of honor this evening from 8 to 11 o'clock at open house at the home of Mrs. Frank Bowden of 1002 Second avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wolfe of Scranton, a son and daughter-in-law of the celebrants, also will act as host and hostess at the affair, to which members of the family and close friends are invited. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe were united in marriage July 14, 1898, by Rev. Myers of the Dunkard church, Sixth avenue and Fifth street, at the home of the bride's parents, Henry C. and Dorothy Etta (Knisely) Strayer (deceased) of 224 East Fourth avenue. Mr. Wolfe was born Oct. 26, 1874, a son of Balzar and Magdeline (Filer) Wolfe (deceased) of 417 First avenue. Mrs. Wolfe was born in Port Royal, Pa., Jan. 18, 1880, coming to Altoona with her parents at the age of 2 years. The couple has one son, Charles Wolfe of Scranton, an executive with the Carlson Hat company, and a grandson, G. Richard Wolfe, also of Scranton. Since his retirement in 1944 from the position of stationary engineer at the Hoffman Dairy company, Mr. Wolfe reports that he has been occupying his time conversing with old friends in the neighborhood and assisting Mrs. Wolfe with the household chores. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe are members of the Second Avenue Evangelical United Brethren church. Both are enjoying fairly good health. Altoona Mirror, Wednesday evening, July 14, 1948, page 5
