August 6, 1999, A9. Dr. Lloyd R. Ayers (photo) Dr. Lloyd R. Ayers, 88, Box 178, Hollidaysburg RD 2, died Sunday morning, August 1, 1999, at Altoona Hospital. He was born April 21, 1911, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late W. Roy and Agnes (Roberts) Ayers. He was married twice. First he married Lois R. Burket. She died in 1981. Then he married Imelda (Frederick) Koeck in 1983 in Hollidaysburg. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg. Dr. Ayers retired as a physician practicing internal medicine and specializing in pulmonary diseases in 1992, after 57 years of service. He opened his office for the practice of medicine in Hollidaysburg in 1945. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree, studying science and medicine in 1934. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1935. Dr. Ayers was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving from 1939 to 1945. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until 1962. He was honored by the Blair County Medical Society in 1985 for 50 years of medical service. He enjoyed gardening, outdoors and traveling. Dr. Ayers was a member of American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Blair County Medical Society. He was a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of Juniata Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite and Jaffa Temple. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Nancy Hopkins of Newark, Del.; a stepdaughter, Lisa Broadrick of Altoona; two sons: Thomas of Larchmont, NY, and James of Spotsylvania, VA; four stepsons: Stephen and Gary Koeck, both of Altoona, Kevin Koeck of Claysburg and Mark Koeck of Boston; a stepbrother, Millard Fillmore of Leesburg, FL; two stepsisters: Jean Cikoski of Zelienople and Margaret Cohen of Albany, GA; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. AYERS - The funeral of Dr. Lloyd R. Ayers, Box 178 Hollidaysburg RD 2, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Scott Custead officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stevens Mortuary Inc. Dr. Ayers served on the staff of Altoona Hospital, the James E. She was born Mar. 17, 1908, in Hartford, Conn. She married the late Joseph Daniel Branciere. Mrs. Branciere was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Branciere enjoyed cooking. Surviving are two daughters: Laraine Farabaugh of Ebensburg, RD, and Jean Righenzi of Hartford, Conn.; a sister, Anna Corona of Gardina, CA; a brother, Donald LaTorre of Pooler, GA; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pauline F. Faust Pauline F. Faust, 86, 626 W 15th St., Tyrone, died Saturday evening, July 31, 1999, at Altoona Hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1912, in Tyrone, the daughter of David H. and Minnie (Hampton) Meredith. She married Raymond Eugene Faust July 18, 1942, in Buffalo, NY He died May 12, 1976. Mr.. Faust was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Tyrone, where she was a pianist for many years. She retired from F & F Dry Cleaners, Tyrone, in 1969. She had previously been employed at the El Patio and Wilson Theaters, Tyrone, Wilson Chemical Co., Tyrone, and the Tyrone High School library. Mrs. Faust was a 1932 graduate of Tyrone High School. She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 288. She was a member of the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary and was past Mother Advisor of Charomali Assembly of Rainbow Girls No. 114. Surviving are two daughters: Mary Margaret Michaels of Tyrone and Meredith Ann Dillon of Bald Eagle; two sisters: Patsy Getz and Helen Meredith, both of Tyrone; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Kratzer, 90, Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, formerly of 212 Murphy St., Hollidaysburg, died Saturday evening, July 31, 1999, at the center. He was born Sept. 11, 1908, in Hollidaysburg, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Della (Piper) Kratzer. He married Bernadine I. Wertz in July 1930 in Cumberland, MD She died Dec. 12, 1997. Mr. Kratzer was a member of Foot of Ten Independent Bible Church, Duncansville. He retired as a receiver from A & P Warehouse, Altoona in 1973, with 46 years of service. Mr. Kratzer enjoyed hunting and traveling. He was a member of Hollidaysburg Consolidated Sportsman's Club and was a member of Teamsters Union. Surviving are two daughters: Doey Donlan of Hollidaysburg and Sandra Wilt of Centerville, Ohio; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was born Oct. 21, 1908, in Gallitzin, the son of the late Joseph and Georgia (Salvi) Madonna. Mr. Madonna was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He retired as a custodian from the former Gallitzin High School. Surviving are three nieces: Jane Mareinko of Cresson, and Deb Chuckalovchak and Helen, both of Gallitzin; a nephew, Jim of Gallitzin; four great nieces: Kristen Swan, Sandi Renninger, Lisa Lingafelt and Jenelle all of Gallitzin; three great nephews: Jay Madonna and Mark Wilt, both of Gallitzin and Bob Madonna of Cresson; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews. May, 94, Blair Chalet, Hollidaysburg, formerly of 100 E. 27th Ave., Altoona, died Sunday morning, August 1, 1999, at the home after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 9, 1905, in Altoona, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. and Effie (Hurley) May. He married Bernadine A. Steckman April 26, 1927, in Harrisburg. She died Feb. 10, 1993. Mr. May was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Juniata. He retired as senior fieldmeter tester from Penelec in 1969, after 41 years of service. Surviving are a son, Franklin C. Jr. of South Yarmouth, MA.; a daughter, Sally A. Leiden of Altoona; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Jane "Neason" Moyer Jane "Neason" Moyer, 96, of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona and Pennsylvania Furnace, died Sunday morning, August 1, 1999, at the home following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 19, 1902, in Lilly, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Frances (Leahey) Bradley. She married John J. Moyer June 6, 1923, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. He died in April, 1984. Mrs. Moyer was employed in private duty as a practical nurse elderly caregiver and also operated a personal care home in Altoona for many years. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling. Surviving are a son, Thomas J. of Pennsylvania Furnace, with whom she resided; a half brother, Howard Bradley of Parma, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Raugh, 96, Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, died Saturday evening, July 31, 1999, at the home. She was born March 9, 1903, in Tatesville, Everett RD, the daughter of Irvin and Edith (May) Fluke. She married the Rev. John Raugh Sept. 7, 1922. He died Dec. 20, 1947. Mrs. Raugh was a member of Roaring Spring Mennonite Church and of the Ladies' Aid Society. She was employed at the Altoona Shoe Co. and previously at the Martinsburg Shoe Co. for two years. She enjoyed tatting, flowers and traveling. Surviving are three daughters: Dorcas McGraw of Downingtown and Maxine Aungst and Alma Mingle, both of Roaring Spring, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, after an extended illness. He was born June 20, 1935, in Altoona, the son of Raymond and Mable (Winters) Ressler. Mr. Ressler was self-employed as a painter. He attended Altoona area schools. Mr. Ressler served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman during the Korean War. Surviving are two daughters: Lisa M. Miller of Virginia Beach, VA, and Marcia A. Frantz of Altoona; a son, Kenneth L. of Altoona; three sisters: Betty Bakcus and Georgie Edminston, both in Ohio, and Jane O'Keefe of Altoona; five brothers: Thomas, Charles, Albert and Clair, all in Michigan, and Eugene of Altoona; and six grandchildren. Yingling Sr., 70, 1220 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg, died Saturday morning, July 31, 1999, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital. He was born June 23, 1929, in Loop Station, the son of the late Howard E. and Susan (Dively) Yingling. He married Peggy L. Dewitt Sept. 23, 1946, in Cumberland, MD Mr. Yingling was a member of First Baptist Church, Hollidaysburg, for more than 50 Years. He served as a trustee and on the Diaconate Board. He also attended Luke Station Community Church. He retired from Value Drug Company in Altoona in 1995, with 25 years of service. He attended Hollidaysburg Area School. He enjoyed his family, sports and puzzles. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Kathryn L. Jackson of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Ray A. Jr. of Altoona and Carl C. of Anchorage, Alaska; four sisters: Kathryn Clapper of Hollidaysburg; Luetta Grove of Phoenix, Ariz.; Joan of Hollidaysburg RR and Bette Smith of Duncansville RR; two brothers: Leo of Hollidaysburg MD, Clair of Hollidaysburg RR; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Degyansky, 56, Statesboro, GA, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at his residence, following a brief illness. Mr. Degyansky professor of civil engineering technology, retired this summer from Georgia Southern University, where he was awarded the title of professor emeritus. In his 19 years at Georgia Southern, he served on numerous committees and on the faculty senate. His retirement from Georgia Southern culminated 34 years of teaching. A dedicated teacher, Mr. Degyansky received his bachelor's degree with high honors and master's degree in sanitary engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Georgia Southern in 1980, as an associate professor of civil engineering technology, he taught at Penn State campuses at Altoona and Middletown; Norwich University, Northfield, Vt.; Virginia Polytechnic Institute., and State University, Blacksburg. In support of the profession, Mr. Degyansky had been active in the American Society of Civil Engineers at the local, state and national levels. In 1990, he became the first nonmetro Atlanta civil engineer to serve as president of the Georgia Section. At the national level, he served as chairman of the ASCE Committee for technology, curriculum and accreditation. In 1993, he received a Georgia Southern Faculty Service Award. A large part of his service had been to the region in developing solid waste plans. He was a member of the Bulloch County Solid Waste Advisory Committee, the Statesboro Tree Board, and a charter member of the 11-county Southeast Georgia Clean and Beautiful Commission. In addition to ASCE, he had been an active member of the Georgia Water Pollution and Control Association and the American Society of Engineering Education. Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Knight) Degyansky of Statesboro (formerly of Harrisburg); two sons and a daughter-in-law: Nathan and Casey Degyansky of Atlanta and Seth Degyansky of Statesboro; his parents: Max and Virginia Degyansky of Altoona; and a sister, Regina Delap of Levittown. Mr. Zimmerman was a 1937 graduate of Tyrone High School and had studied entomology, biology, and chemistry at Purdue University. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sports and Scouting. He was born September 11, 1929, in Claysburg, the son of the late Anson L. and Edith (Ritchey) Corle. He married Peggy L. Walter March 11, 1948, at Claysburg Church of the Brethren. Mr. Corle retired from the Engineering Corps of the Army in 1973. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He was a 1947 graduate of Claysburg High School. Mr. Corle enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Claysburg American Legion and the Claysburg Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife; three daughters: Karen Corle, Susan K. Mr. Germano was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he served as lector, usher and communion minister. He retired as a welder from the former Samuel Rea Shop of Conrail in 1976. Mr. Germano served as assistant grievance chairman and recording secretary of the Transport Workers Union Local. He enjoyed baseball, football and swimming. Mr. Germano served as past president of the Buccinese and Christopher Columbus Italian clubs and was a member of Caesar Battisti Club. He played on the Red Devils baseball team of the City League in 1930. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Carole Mauk and Anthea, both of Altoona; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was born December 26, 1937, in Bedford, the son of the late Arthur and Sarah E. (Swauger) Arnold. He married Audrey Worthing November 27, 1968, in the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren. Mr. Arnold was affiliated with the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren. He owned and operated Broad Top Paving Company. Previously he was employed at New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. He served in the Navy. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Penny Maugle of Duncansville and Ginger Faircloth of Saxton; two sons: Jerry Park of State College and Fred D. of Johnstown; four brothers: Robert Sutter in OK, William of Berkley Springs, WV, James of Bedford and Albert of Meriden, CT.; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Cerully was a member of the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church in Bellwood. He retired from Stroehmann Brothers Bakery in 1974, after 32 years of service. He was employed part time at Wissinger's for eight years. Mr. Cerully enjoyed wood working, carpentry and playing the organ. He was a member of the Abruzzese Society and the I&I Post, Altoona. He married Pearl Grace Lentine in 1938. Mr. Smorto was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He was an attorney who was elected to the judgeship in 1965. He practiced law with the firm of Smorto, Persio, Webb, and McGill Attorneys in Ebensburg until March 1999. Mr. Smorto was a lifelong member of Sons of Italy and of Mount Carmel Lodge of Barnesboro. Eva Josephine Johns Eva Josephine Johns, 87, Westminster Woods in Huntingdon, formerly of McConnellstown, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Westminster Woods, after a brief illness. She was born April 18, 1912, in Johnstown, the daughter of Ira Russell and Clara (Craig) Johns. She retired as a nurse from the Washington, DC Health Department in 1977, after 26 years of service. Previously, she had worked as an occupational health nurse at the Municipal Center and as a staff nurse at the National Institute of Health, both of Washington, DC, and as an occupational health nurse at Owens Corning Fiberglass, Huntingdon. Miss Johns was a 1930 graduate of Huntingdon High School and a 1934 graduate of Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia. She served in the Army Nurses Corp for three years, two of those during World War II in the European Theater. Miss Johns was a life member of Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Huntingdon, and was a member of Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post, Huntingdon. He was born June 25, 1918, in Altoona, the son of Walter M. and Margaret E. (Funk) Templon. He married Patricia J. Stewart. Mr. Templon was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Clinton, MD. He was an engineer with Greater South East Community Hospital, Washington DC. Mr. Templon was a 1937 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, from 1939-46. Mr. Templon earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit badge with two Oak Leaf clusters, the American Defense Campaign medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, the World War II Victory Medal and Philippines Defense Medal. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and his prisoners-of-war group. Mr. Templon was a member of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, April S.
