Akers, of 204 Thirteenth street, died at 9:40 o'clock last night after an illness of two weeks. He was born August 1, 1841. He is survived by his wife and four children, all of this city. He was a member of Company K, One Hundred and Twenty-fifth regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers, the G.A.R. Post 62, Knights of Pythias. The funeral will be held at his late home on Thursday at an hour which will be announced later. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Tuesday Morning, May 7, 1918, page 10 AKERS. W. L. Akers, a veteran of the Civil war and for many years a prominent East Side resident, died at 9.40 o'clock last night, of a complication of diseases, after a short illness at his home, 204 Thirteenth street. He was born Aug. 1, 1841, and when the Civil war broke out he enlisted in Company K, 125th Pennsylvania Volunteers. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: C. G. Akers, George H. Akers, Mrs. E. D. Knavel and Laura B., all at home. He was a member of Post 62, G.A.R. and the Knights of Pythias. Funeral services will be held Thursday at a time to be announced later.
