Auman, aged 27, a member of troop K, First cavalry, died of wounds sustained in action Oct. 31, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Maggie Mentzer of 512 Twentieth street. He was a former member of the regular army and re-enlisted July 21, 1917, trained at Camp Hancock and sailed for France last April. The young man made his home in Altoona and was here on a furlough during March, just before going over seas. He first entered the army May 2, 1913, and was made a private in Company H., 12th infantry. He was transferred to troop K, 3rd cavalry, May 1, 1915, and was honorably discharged April 29, 1916, but re-enlisted. Besides his mother he is survived by a brother, Carl Auman, and these sisters, Mrs. Charles Embig, Mrs. William C. Crider and Mrs. Clair F. O'Connor, all of Altoona, and one half-brother, Harry Mentzer. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, December 10, 1918
