Jacob Aurandt, aged 77 years, had been a lifelong resident of that vicinity and had been engaged in farming. On Wednesday morning, he started out from his home in the Beaver Dams to hunt a cow that had failed to come home. Towards nightfall the missing cow came home, but Mr. Aurandt failed to put in an appearance. His home folks, thoroughly alarmed, instituted a search and about ten o'clock Thursday morning, he was found dead, a considerable distance from home, in the woods whither he had gone to hunt the cow. From his appearance, and the fact that his hat was found some distance away, it was evident that he had some trouble with the cow, and that his over-exertion in the chase had resulted in an attack of heart failure from which he had died instantly. Mr. Aurandt was one of the best-known residents of Catherine township. He was a man of numerous good traits, a Christian gentleman in the true sense of the expression, revered by the community in which he had been a farmer for so many years. In politics, he was a Republican, loyal in his support of the principles of the party. He goes to his long home full of years and honor. His wife had preceded him to the grave some years ago. He is survived by the following children: Henderson, Mrs. Blanche Kephart and Mrs. Lottie Feggart, of Altoona; Miss Mary, of Tyrone; Mrs. William Stewart, of Point View; Arvard and Miss Margaret, at home. Two brothers, Daniel, of Yellow Springs, and Alfred, of Kentucky, also survive him, and two sisters who reside in Altoona. The Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., September 17, 1908, page 1
