Antonio Aveni Dies Following Long Illness

  Antonio Aveni. of 1204 8th Ave., well known East Side shoe repairman 
for more than 40 years and a veteran of World War I, died in the 
Altoona Veteran Administration Hospital at 10:40 p.m. Sunday after an 
extended illness.
  Mr. Aveni was born in Tripi Province of Messina, Italy, Sept. 7, 
1889, a son of Pasquale and Nunziata (DeAveni) Aveni, and was married 
to Vincenza Agati Dec. 23, 1912, at Tripi, Italy.
  Surviving are his wife, six children, Joseph, Mrs. Margaret Nardelli, 
Mrs. Helen McCulley, Mrs. Antoinette DiFlaviano and Mrs. Gino Romani, 
all of Altoona, and Mrs. Adeline Raynor of Drayden, Md.; 16 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother Joseph, and two 
sisters, Vincenza and Domenica, in Italy. 
  He was a member of Mount Carmel Church and the James L. Noble Post 3, 
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
  Mr. Aveni was a veteran of World War I, serving in Company G. 30th 
Infantry, 3rd Division, and took part in the campaigns of the Aisne-
Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Chateau Thierry and the Vesle River. 
He was wounded in action Oct. 10, 1918. Friends will be received at the 
Santella Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
